The space
The Old Shop was the original farm shop, built in the 1930’s. The main area is a lounge / dining/ kitchen area with a cast iron fireplace for cold nights. The old storerooms at the back have been converted into a main bedroom for two sharing, with a second bedroom for a third guest leading off it. A small bathroom with a shower, toilet and hand basin have been added on.
The Old Shop is ideally suited for a couple, or a couple with a child. Four can be accommodated at a squeeze if the couch in the lounge is also made up for sleeping. There is a covered carport next to the cottage, and the enclosed garden has an outside braai area.
Wifi is available.
Should guests want to go walking or mountain biking, paths and roads have been cut through the bush on the mountain and one can walk for hours. Most of the 184 ha farm is mountain with virgin bush and it has two gorges with streams and waterfalls. There are also a large number of ancient, stone circle ruins which are of great archaeological interest. Birds and other wild life are abundant.
The Old Shop is a new addition to the Schoemanskloof Retreat guest cottages, based on Falls Fish Farm, in the beautiful valley of Schoemanskloof (between Machadodorp and Nelspruit) in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Situated conveniently close to the N4, it is about a 40 minute drive to Nelspruit and a 2-hour drive to the Kruger National Park. The cottage can be reached with a normal car via a short dirt road – about 300m from the tarred N4.
